Discuss the issues raised in the targeting of national and local audiences by international or global institutions

If a film is unable to afford marketing that is above the line, the film will miss out on possible audiences due to the lack of synergy. Independent institutions with a low budget and small advertising causes film to be restricted to only one specific audience type. Filmmakers in Britain frequently make social realism films aimed at local and regional audiences, where major media companies prefer to make high-budget, high-concept films. They have boutique divisions that produce and distribute lower-budget films aimed at a more affluent audience. As conglomerate institutions are able to create synergy from above the line advertising, they do not have an issue with targeting specific audiences and are able to get their films to reach everyone. Their higher budget also permits them to display their films in different formats like Imax and 3D.
